Residents’ views/concerns:
A suggestion has been made to plant more trees in Hob Lane but the land belongs to the Berkswell Trust and so negotiations need to take place first.
Update on and discussion of Residents’ Association initiatives and issues:
HS2 issues. Following the last meeting with HS2, it was felt the questions raised had not been answered and so Rona plans to follow up with Sir Jeremy Wright to see how matters can be progressed.
Action: Rona
Oak tree update – Thanks were given to Barry and Bron Putnam for staking the commemorative oak tree.
Greenway Trust – a meeting date is still awaited. HannahTaylor, the community artist, has not replied to correspondence.
William Davis homes support – Bernie Pegg of William Davis Homes has offered “new opportunities to support groups in Burton Green” with a donation. Ideas were suggested such as supporting the proposed soup lunches, assisting with equipment for the pétanque piste, tree planting in Hob Lane and further flower tubs in the village. Judi will respond.
Action: Judi
Flower tubs – Hilary suggested new flower tubs could be placed next to the bus stop in Red Lane and the bus shelter near the corner of Hodgetts Lane and Cromwell Lane.
Welcome leaflet update – an update of the welcome leaflet was scheduled. Judi asked for any suggestions to add to the leaflet and she will update and circulate it to committee members.
Action: Judi
Parish Council Report
The Annual Meeting was not particularly well attended. The academic researcher Dr Ayton Alibaba gave a talk about her proposed study into the social impact of HS2 but, as yet, had not received funding for the project.
CIL money was still to be spent and attendees at the meeting put forward ideas of how to use it.
The problem of so many HS2 rental properties in the village was discussed. It appears that the DfT provides the funding for the maintenance of these properties. In response to a query, it was established that grass at unoccupied rental properties was now mown only twice a year.
Any Other Business:
Rona had sent to the meeting the old Residents’ Association minute books dating back to 1955. The meeting agreed that these should be lodged with Warwick Record Office, if possible. Janet agreed to make enquiries.
Action: Janet
Best wishes were conveyed to Rona following her recent illness and stays in hospital. Judi agreed to arrange for flowers to be sent from the committee.
Action: Judi
Date of next Meetings in 2026:
