Residents’ views/concerns:

  1. Battery storage. One plan has been approved and two others have either been rejected or are awaiting a decision. The Parish Council was keeping a watching brief.

  1. Alms Houses. The Parish Council had opposed the plan as had the Residents’ Association and a number of residents. The hearing is imminent.

  1. Speed signage at the end of Red Lane. It appears this is now working.

  1. Response from WCC Highways re state of the roads (Already discussed)

No other matters had been raised by residents.

Update on and discussion of Residents’ Association initiatives and issues:

  • HS2 issues

Warwick Webster had discussed with Peter Stanworth the bare concrete structures surrounded by trees and shrubs that will take several decades to mature. He suggested contacting the council about mitigating schemes such as living walls.

Andy questioned how much concrete will be on view as, ultimately, soil, grass and shrubs will cover the site. Will HS2 pay for any mitigation measures but what would residents wish to see?

It was recommended that Warwick Webster joins Jeremy Wright’s top of the tunnel group.

With reference to the coping stones that HS2 have retained, Peter thinks they should be reused on the boundary walls for the road over the tunnel. The weight of the stones is a factor to be considered in any plans for their reuse.

  • BGRA logo. Rona had contacted Delancey without response. Janet agreed to follow this up.

Action: Janet

  • Community lunch: This will take place on April 3rd and residents need to book in advance. Details had been circulated in the recent edition of the Bugle. It was agreed that we need to check with the chef regarding his Food Hygiene certificate.

Action: Mary

  • Litter Posters. As above.

  • Maintenance of mosaics: Jo Edler, who had created the mosaics, had reported that rain had started to degrade the mosaics. She had researched a way of binding the edges to prevent further damage and estimated a cost of £80. This was unanimously agreed.

  • VE Day arrangements: Mary reported that the soldier outline and the net of poppies would be placed on the Coronation verge the week before VE Day. She was waiting for a quote for a replacement soldier and some large poppies.

Action: Mary

  • It was left to individuals to arrange their own afternoon tea events with neighbours on their drives on Monday May 6th. The fish and chip van had been booked at the Village Hall for May 8th from 7p.m. Orders needed to be placed in advance.

  • Food bank. A collection will be made on April 13th between 10.30 and 11.30 of items to be donated to the Canley Food Bank. Unopened tins, jars and cartons will be gratefully received. A list of items urgently needed by the food bank can be found at https://coventryfoodbank.org.uk/list

  • Defibrillator pads: These have now been replaced. Alice had suggested a cheaper supplier and the pads will now last for two years.

Parish Council Report

The Parish Council is looking at siting a new bin on Cromwell Lane opposite Hickory’s at the entrance to the footpath.

Any Other Business:

Hickory’s had expressed an interest in doing something for the community. New flower tubs and daffodil bulbs were suggested. Further discussions were to take place with Hickory’s.

Thanks were expressed to committee members for frequently litter picking in the village. This will be highlighted in a future edition of the Bugle.

Action: Mary
